5th World Games of Young Compatriots were held in Khanty-Mansiysk

The 5th World Games of Young Compatriots were held from 1st to 5th June in Khanty-Mansiysk. The competition attracted 650 children and teenagers from 60 countries who took part in cultural and sports events in the capital of Yugra.

For the fourth consecutive year a delegation from Malta participates in the Games. This year its members were Jason Burke, Matvei Petrovsky, Anna and Daniil Spiridonov. All of them are chess players.

The 5th World Games of Young Compatriots have been held since 2015. Among the main organizers are the Ministry for Sports of Russia, the Ministry for Education of Russia, the All-Russian School Sports Federation and Rossotrudnichestvo.

These Games are one of the most large-scale annual projects for youngsters from Russian-speaking communities residing abroad. This event helps developing closer ties with Russian compatriots abroad in the form of mass sports and healthy lifestyle promotion. Furthermore, it expands young compatriots’ knowledge about cultural diversity of Russia.

Prior to Khanty-Mansiysk, the Games were held in the cities of Sochi and Kazan.
