After her famous flight, Valentina Tereshkova became active public figure who dedicated her life to develop international ties of the Soviet Union.
She was the chair of the Committee of Soviet Women, vice-president of the Women's International Democratic Federation and a member of the World Peace Council in a period from 1968 to 1987.
Tereshkova was a chair of presidium of Union of Soviet Societies for Friendship and Cultural Relations with Foreign Countries since 1987.
She directed the Russian Center of international scientific and cultural cooperation since 1994 to 2004. The Russian Center of international scientific and cultural cooperation and VOKS (All-Union Society for Cultural Relations with Foreign Countries) were able to maintain and enlarge its’ international ties largely due to her indisputable authority and titanic work through hard period of history for Russia. Valentina Tereshkova continues to help people and remains sympathetic to everyone’s requests and aspirations.
Valentina became Member of Parliament of the 6th State Duma of the Russian Federation in 2011. Later she was the Deputy Chairman of the State Duma on International Affairs.
Valentina Tereshkova managed to fulfill the dream of millions – girl from working-class family became a pioneer in space and brought fame to her motherland.
